Be the first to experience Nikos's brand new luxurious apartmentsSpacious Apartments Right at the Wildwind BeachFor nearly forty years, Wildwind has worked closely with the Melas and Kavadias families. This partnership has grown alongside us since the late 1980s. Many of our returning guests will remember just how basic things were in those early days: eight rooms on the ground floor, a stony beach, no lawn, and life refreshingly simple. But as Wildwind has evolved, so have our accommodation options.
A New Step Up in ComfortThis season, Nikos Kavadias is proud to offer his brand new, large, and, well, really quite gorgeous modern family apartments. This adds a noticeably higher level of comfort and finish to our accommodation options at the beach. Here's what you can expect from these new independent self-catering apartments:
This accommodation option is ideal for guests who love the Wildwind atmosphere and sailing set-up, but who would appreciate an upgrade in accommodation comfort. It's the same beach, the same wind, the same relaxed community, but with a little added comfort at the end of the day. A true home-away-from-home!
Strengthening the Wildwind FamilyNikos, who many of you know from running the Wildwind beach bar, is very much part of the long-standing Kavadias family connection to Wildwind. His apartments represent the next stage in that ongoing partnership. And for those who enjoy a sporting pedigree: Nikos held the outright windsurfing speed record in Vassiliki Bay for many years and was ranked second-best cyclist in Greece a decade ago. Safe to say, performance runs in the family! They're Going Fast There are only three apartments and they are already proving quite popular. So needless to say, if you'd like to upgrade your Wildwind stay, please give us a call - we'd be happy to talk you through the details. |

Eco-award recognises excellent water qualityVassiliki: Blue Flag Every Year Since 2017Vassiliki beach has consistently held Blue Flag status since 2017. Not just once, not occasionally, but every single year. This means that the scenic bay on the southern tip of Lefkas that forms the heart of the Wildwind community is recognised as holding one of the most respected eco-labels in coastal tourism. The Blue Flag is not just symbolic; it represents compliance with rigorous environmental, safety and management standards, with particular emphasis on water quality. The programme is run internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education and is recognised across dozens of countries as a mark of excellence for beaches and marinas.
Beaches are assessed annually against strict criteria - and Vassiliki, including Ponti, continues to meet them, year after year. Stringent criteriaFor a beach to qualify, bathing waters are tested regularly and must meet stringent cleanliness thresholds, ensuring they are free from pollution and safe for swimming. In other words, the water has to be properly, consistently clean. Beyond water quality, Blue Flag status also reflects:
This recognition reflects both the natural qualities of Lefkada and the collective effort to preserve them. Reassurance - On and Off the WaterFor visitors and residents alike, Vassiliki's Blue Flag status offers reassurance and confidence. It confirms that the bay's waters are among the cleanest in Europe, that the beach is managed responsibly, and that environmental protection is taken seriously. For us at Wildwind, where days revolve around launching boats, capsizing dinghies, swimming between races and spending hours immersed in the bay, that matters. When you spend this much time on the water, its quality is essential. So this award reinforces what our guests already know: Vassiliki isn't just one of Europe's most attractive destinations for swimming, sailing and other watersports, it's one of the most dependable too. |

Wildwind sponsors the sailing communityFrom the outset, Wildwind has been closely connected to the wider sailing community and has always taken part in competition at every level of the sport. Sailing has never been something we simply delivered; it has always been something we actively shared and stayed involved in. Wildwind grew out of Simon Morgan's long-held idea of creating a sailing club away from home - a place where there are close to perfect conditions on most days, and where club sailors can not only sail the type of boat they race at home, but also try a wide range of other boats and equipment. The aim has always been to give people the chance to experiment, develop, and make the most of their time on the water. That mix of familiarity and exploration has been central to what Wildwind is about from day one.
Alongside that has been a simple, instinctive desire to give something back to the community that has supported us over the years. It has never felt like an obligation or a box to be ticked - just something that feels right. If people are sailing, racing, organising events, and keeping the sport alive, we want to support that where we can. A core principle of our sponsorship is participation. A good example of this approach is our sponsorship of the ILCA Grand Prix raffle, drawn at the RYA Dinghy Show. Entries were earned through participation: sailors who competed in all ten events had ten chances in the draw, while those who sailed only the National Championships had one. The structure was simple and deliberate - commitment to the series mattered. Alongside the ILCA Grand Prix and Masters National Championships, we are proud to support Lymington Town Sailing Club, our local club in the UK, as well as the British Hobie Cat Class Association. We have also been involved with the Dutch Hobie Cat Cup, reflecting a long-standing commitment to class-based sailing beyond our own backyard. Many will also remember Wildwind's involvement at the sharper end of the sport. One of our most defining moments was the Vassiliki 2001 European Championships - 118 Hobie 16s racing in Vassiliki Bay, with winds at times pushing beyond 40 knots. It remains a standout moment in Wildwind's history. If you want a reminder of just how intense those conditions were, the video footage tells the story - sailing pushed right to its limits. Sponsorship, for us, is not about backing winners. It is about backing sailing. |
Nautilus Diving CentreExploring Vassiliki Below the SurfaceThere's the Vassiliki we all know - thermal winds, afternoons flying across the bay, the stunning views over to Kefalonia and Ithaca. And then there's the Vassiliki beneath the surface. For more than 23 years, Nautilus Diving Centre has been a defining part of the local seascape. Run by George Kiriakos since the early 2000s, Nautilus has built a quiet reputation for excellence, guiding thousands of divers through courses, their first underwater breaths and unforgettable Ionian explorations.
George is one of those fixtures of Vassiliki life. Calm, experienced, and entirely at home on and especially under the water. Diving is for EveryoneWhether you're a complete beginner or already certified, dives are tailored to your level and your curiosity. First-timers are introduced gently and professionally to the underwater world. Qualified divers can explore deeper sites and more varied terrain along the coastline of Lefkada. And if full scuba isn't your thing? Nautilus also runs snorkelling expeditions and RIB safaris, heading out to explore hidden coves and beautiful beaches around Vassiliki and the wider island.
Part of the Wildwind ExperienceOur Healthy Options programme includes one of Nautilus' snorkelling trips: an exploratory contrast to a week full of Yoga, Pilates and Fitness classes. With our Wildwind Adventures programme, guests can try both diving and snorkelling to add completely different dimensions to their time in Vassiliki. Great for FamiliesFor families, Nautilus is an especially good find. George has created a safe, playful outdoor area where children can relax and enjoy themselves while parents head out on the water. It's thoughtful, practical, very much in keeping with the relaxed rhythm of the bay. |
